Terms of Service

Last updated: 16 September 2026

Agreement to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and karta. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use karta. Our Privacy Policy is part of this agreement.

What karta is

karta is a hiring discoverability platform. Job seekers build a work-style profile, see where they sit relative to companies, and stay anonymous until they choose otherwise. Hiring organizations search that pool, see matches, and ask a candidate for permission to be introduced.

karta is not an employment agency, a recruiter, or a party to any hiring process.

karta is free for job seekers, permanently

If you are here to be found for work, karta is free and will stay free. We will not introduce a subscription, a paid tier, a per-feature paywall, or a usage limit for job seekers, and we will not charge you to be visible, to be matched, or to be contacted. We will not sell your personal information.

The platform is paid for by the hiring organizations that search it.

Eligibility and accounts

  • You must be at least 18 to use karta.
  • Accounts are created with an email address and a password. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One account per person. Do not share an account or create one on someone else’s behalf.
  • Recruiter accounts are invite-only, provisioned inside a hiring organization and activated through a single-use link. Do not pass that link to anyone else.

If you are a job seeker

  • Be accurate. Your CV, bio and employer should describe you honestly. Do not claim an employer you do not work for, and do not build a profile for another person.
  • Upload only your own CV. You keep every right in it, and we claim no ownership of anything you submit.
  • Visibility is yours. You are hidden by default, you can change that whenever you like, and you are never obliged to accept a poke or to explain a refusal.
  • You grant us permission to process what you submit in order to run the service: to compute your match data and to display your profile as your visibility setting allows, and no further.

If you are a recruiter or a hiring organization

Access to the candidate pool depends on these.

  • Do not try to deanonymize users. Correlating anonymous matches or map positions against outside data, searches designed to isolate one individual and scraping are prohibited.
  • A revealed identity stays inside your organization and inside the role it was revealed for. Do not resell it, publish it, add it to a shared database, or pass it to a client or another agency.
  • Ask to contact people through karta until they accept a poke. Do not attempt to deanonymize and contact outside of the platform unless you've already received permission from the user via a poke.
  • Hire lawfully. You must not use karta to discriminate on any basis protected by the law that applies to you.
  • A human decides. Match scores and map positions are decision support. You remain the decision-maker for every screening, interview and hiring decision, and you are responsible for the employment.
  • The organization owner is responsiblefor the members they invite and for their use of the service. Pokes, reveals, invitations and membership changes are recorded in your organization’s trust log.
  • Fees, seats and billing terms are as separately agreed with us.

Acceptable use

Whoever you are, do not:

  • impersonate anyone, or submit content you have no right to submit;
  • upload malicious files, or attempt to break, overload, probe or circumvent the service’s security or its rate limits;
  • scrape, bulk-export, or systematically copy candidate, company or aggregate data;
  • attempt to extract, reconstruct or reverse-engineer how our matching works;
  • use the service to harass anyone, or for any unlawful purpose.

What we do not promise

  • karta does not promise you a job, an interview, a poke, a response, or a qualified candidate.
  • Match percentages, rankings and map positions are estimates derived from self-reported answers. They are not measurements of skill, performance, character or fit, and they can be wrong.
  • We do not verify that a candidate works where they say, or that an organization is who it says.
  • The service is provided on a best-effort basis and may be interrupted for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.

Our content and yours

You keep all rights in what you submit. karta, its software, design, company registry and aggregate outputs remain ours, and nothing here grants you a licence to copy or reuse them beyond ordinary use of the service.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using karta at any time and ask us to delete your account, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and may remove an organization’s access for conduct by any of its members. We may change or discontinue features; if we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice so you can retrieve your data.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR THE ACCURACY OR RELIABILITY OF ANY MATCH, RANKING OR AGGREGATE PRESENTED BY THE SERVICE.

Limitation of liability

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KARTA WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for intentional misconduct or gross negligence.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless karta and its operators from claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from content you submit, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms or of any law - including, for hiring organizations, claims arising from your use of candidate data or from your hiring decisions.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Please contact us first. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced in the product or by email before they take effect, and continuing to use karta afterwards means you accept them. If you do not, you may close your account. The commitment that karta is free for job seekers is not subject to this clause: it will not be revised.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, it will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will remain in force.
