Hiring still runs on a strange set of proxies. Where you went to school, which logos are on your CV, who you happen to know.
None of them tell you much about the thing that decides whether a job works out: how someone actually works, and whether that fits the team they're joining.
karta is our attempt at a better signal.
What karta is
karta is a place to be found by how you work. Conceptually, you can imagine something similar to levels.fyi but for culture, not compensations. (By the way, we love levels!)
You build a profile and a short set of questions about how you like to work: how you prefer feedback, how you collaborate, the pace you do your best work at, including some personal interests: be it cooking, gardening, anime, gaming or anything else!
We also generate a few questions from your own CV, so the profile reflects your actual experience.
All of that becomes a picture of how you work and who you are. Recruiters search for that picture, so a match means "this person works the way my team works", rather than "this CV contains the right keywords".
Anonymous until you connect with a recruiter
By default, and not until you explicitly set so otherwise, you choose whether your profile is public or anonymous, including in searches.
- Hidden profiles show up as anonymous matches. A recruiter can see that someone fits and a handful of public-facing pieces of information, but not who.
- You can select what information is seen in this preview, including having a preview for yourself before you open the profile.
- If they want to connect, they send a request.
- Say yes, and you're revealed to that one recruiter.
Your answers to the work-style questions are never shown to anyone individually. They power your matches and appear only as anonymous aggregates. If you'd rather be public, you can make your profile visible and let recruiters contact you directly. You can switch at any time.
Companies are people
When you build a profile, you tag your employer. Enough people from the same company form a cluster on the company map, and that cluster starts to describe what working there is actually like, from the people who do.
Once you've added your own profile, you can explore those clusters, see how a company's people describe their work compared with everyone else, and put two or three companies side by side before you weigh an offer.
None of this is about good or bad workplaces. A team where people are expected to figure things out on their own is great for some people and exhausting for others. The point is to know which one you're walking into.
For recruiters
Recruiters search by how people work, in plain language, and find candidates who would fit the team rather than just the job description.
Free for job seekers
karta is free for job seekers, and it will always stay that way. It takes a few minutes to build a profile.
We're early, and the map fills in as people join. If you've ever wished you could find a team by how it works instead of how it describes itself, build your profile and help us draw it.
